If I hadnt already given my soul to David Bowie,

... I would seriously consider giving it to Muse.

Weve all had a nutty week-- I have some science posts lined up, but school + work + puppy = insane ERV this week. But my week was not nearly as nutty as poor PZ. Lets just kick back, relax, and enjoy some good 'ol atheist sci-fi music. (in the second one, I think its electrical cords, but pretend theyre tentacles :P)

Does Muse = Radiohead or am I hearing things??

that guy from Muse has heard comparisons between him and Thom Yorke for a while (same as those from Travis and Coldplay), but the truth is that all of them, the Radiohead frontman included, borrowed their vocal style from Jeff Buckley.

BTW ERV, glad to know that you have such a great musical taste! my fav Muse tune is Starlight...

Thom Yorke's vocal style is popular in the Brit Pop scene. IMO, it's true antecedent is Robert Smith from The Cure, even if it often lacks the goth/darkwave overtone Smith was known for.

Anon-- Dont you love it? I want to see them live SO BAD.

Kevin-- I dunno, I dont listen to Radiohead :P But I think they sound like Queen + Pink Floyd + Rachmaninoff.

Israel-- Starlight was my birthday song!

Tyler-- I just know, man. I just know Matthews voice is hella sexy. And no one plays the guitar like that anymore. No one holds a guitar like that anymore. *swoon*
:P

Tyler, yes definitely a resemblance to robert smith

ERV, you need to listen to radiohead then. You MUST listen to Pablo Honey and The Bends. Yu will certainly need to listen to early Dinosaur Jr. too (i.e. Where You been) for some melodic guitar solos.

Muse kicks copious amounts of ass.

And, for some faux-Bowie goodness, check out the Flight of the Conchords...

Muse rock. Definitely try to see them live, the gig I saw (6 years ago, yikes) was one of the best I've seen. Huge balloons covered in UV-fluorescent dye so the whole crowd got covered in it and started painting each others faces. Great stuff!
